The Ocean Bloop: Giant Sea Monster Howl
What it looks like on Noise Spectrogram
The Ocean Bloop slowed down with noise reduction (click to hear!)
What does the U.S. National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration make of the enigmatic sounds recorded in the Ocean depths? They have no idea. What they can determine: the sound is not man made and it is similar to sounds made by sea creatures but would have to be larger than any recorded Ocean animal living or extinct. Remember how big sea monsters were when dinosaurs roamed the Earth? It would have to be bigger than any of those! The sound was last recorded in summer of ’97, a powerful sound with a very low frequency, often compared to the sound of a stone when tossed into the water. Some have suggested the sound could be from a giant squid, but scientists maintain the gas filled sack would not be able of producing such a noise. One researcher named Lobel is very convinced the sound comes from a biological source. I figure it must be Cthulhu. Maybe Cthulhu started a band? The bloop could be him singing and rocking out on bass. What do you think? Seriously, though, this sort of makes me want to think twice about deep sea diving. Although, to me, the bloop really does sound musical. Not the version sped up 16x without noise reduction (which is why I didn’t put that here) Does anybody else think it sounds somewhat musical?

Whoa! That’s evocative. Do you know what ocean it was recorded in?
