Are Sea Monsters Real?

Do Megalithic monsters reside in the Ocean depths?

So much of the Ocean remains unexplored. Think of all of the dark depths and places where humans can’t go. Could mythical creatures live there undiscovered? Science is always uncovering new information about the natural world and laying waste to our previous beliefs. Could it be that the monsters thought to be the product of imagination are creatures living in the Ocean and very real? The giant squid is a perfect example of this phenomenon. For hundreds of years giant squids were thought to be a creation of the collective imagination, despite numerous, credible sightings. That was until the body of the giant squid was found on the shore. Scientists have found a giant squid as recently as October 1997. In Wellington, NZ they even have the body of a giant squid they killed and preserved.

So what does this mean for other so called ‘mythical’ creatures? Many reports describe creatures eerily similar to prehistoric monsters thought to be extinct. Of course, when considering underestimate the power of the human imagination I mean, who hasn’t scared themselves in dark water by imagining sea monster coming at you with teeth the size of a house? The discovery of creatures believed to be extinct makes me wonder about the possible existence of mythical creatures. The Coelacanth was believed to have gone extinct in the Cretaceous period, but a live one was caught in ’38 in South African waters. Since then, many more have been spotted and photographed and even a second species of Coelacanth has been discovered. What else could be lurking down there?
